Mountain Bike Gt Avalanche
Should I Get a Mountain Bike with Slick Tyres or a Hybrid Bike?
I had a decent hard tail mountain bike (GT Avalanche 1.0) but it was stolen two weeks ago. Im looking at getting a replacement. I normally use the bike to ride into work and and get out on the trail a few times a year. A friend suggested that i get a Hybrid as it would be more effective for the work commute (Just under 8 miles – or 45 minutes).
Im concerned that if I got a Hybrid i wont be able to have as much fun on a hybrid in terms of bunny hopping and messing about.
Would a decent hard tail be a good compromise with slick tyres changing to trail tyres when required?
Cheers
If you want a road bike that you can still take on some trails and mess around with, you’ll need a mountain bike. Hybrids will be more comfortable for your commute, but they are strictly road bikes.
A lighter, hard tail, cross country style mountain bike will do you just fine, and if you go with a nice, medium tread on the tires, you don’t even need to bother tire-swapping, unless you plan on participating in some races. The only thing I might suggest is raising up the handle bars to make for a more comfortable commute, and probably changing to a wider seat.
