As a semi-professional cyclist, it is often frustrating to see my training come to a virtual standstill when the heavier snowfall begins in the winter months. Most cyclists overcome this hurdle by investing in a good indoor trainer, but I guess I was just too stingy and lazy to ever get around to it. Recently, however, my son got me this Kurt Kinetic road machine for Christmas and I havenât stopped using it since. The Good
The Kurt Kinetic Road Machine Indoor Trainer is basically a stationary bike stand. You mount your regular mountain bike on the device and cycle in place as if you were using an electronic exercise bicycle. It is also a fluid trainer, which justifies its premium price as fluid bike trainers are held in wide repute for being the quietest and most realistic trainers around.
True to its reputation, this Kurt Kinetic road machine was virtually silent. The noise factor may not seem like a big issue now, but trust me when I say that the deafening buzz of lower-end indoor trainers can really drive you up the wall. Moreover, I can now enjoy the biggest perk of cycling at home â watching TV or blasting my stereo during a workout. Athletes of all vocations will attest to the fact that distracting yourself with some good old-fashioned entertainment is often the key to forgetting the aches and pains of our body to take our fitness to the next level.
Some of my fellow cyclists have complained about leakage from their fluid trainers. Apparently, the fluid inside the trainer which produces the resistance often leaks out due to sub-standard fluid cages. However, my son assured me that this road machine comes with a doubly-reinforces fluid chamber. Sure enough, I have not had any problems with leakage of resistance fluid since buying this product.
Another great thing about this indoor trainer is the level of realism. The use of power-tap calibration means that the resistance is automatically varied with speed. This makes for a fuss-free cycling workout and also adds to the illusion of being in the out and open (a feeling sorely missed in the torrid winter months).
Finally, this machine is probably as durable as it gets. It includes many features designed to increase its lifespan, most prominently 80 cooling fins to dissipate the heat that results from hours of pedalling away at high speeds. The sturdy construction is also all-too-apparent upon removing it from the box. The warranty might be limited, but I honestly donât think that thereâs anything to worry about. Without a doubt, the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine is built to last.
Value for Money
In summary, I am likely to continue using this indoor trainer even in other seasons. For convenience and comfort, this thing canât be beat. The only downside might be the high price tag, but what you get is what you pay for. Besides, I got it as a gift â so now you know what to ask for next Christmas!
